Have a safe Holiday

Because of Thanksgiving we are once again not having a podcast. Please stay safe, enjoy tons of food, and remember to play at least one crappy video game.

It's Finals Week

At least for us here at The Tangled Cords. Sadly, that means no new updates.

See you all next week!

Episode 7 - Spooktacular

We're sorry.

OK? We admit it, this one is far obviously not coming out on Halloween. School has us backed against the wall, and the sheer amount of time it took to edit this monster - see what I did there? - pushed it off the top of the list.

In any event, it has finally arrived! This episode is the very best of several hours of recording. A three-game extravaganza that will have you hanging off the edge of something; perhaps even what you are sitting on.

Games reviewed:

Friday the 13th
Nightmare on Elm Street
Rainbow Islands

That last one is flippin scary.

Episode 6 - Smash TV & Adams Family

There comes a time in every young man's life when he must venture forth into the arena and pit himself against other young men. These contests are fought for the highest honor any man can achieve - the ownership of a 1999 Roadster or a brand new VCR. Fortunately for us this almost supernatural experience has been captured in digital format, to be replayed over and over. "Smash TV" is everything that is great about life, and freedom, and America.

Not only this but we find it also to contain within it a foreshadowing to that little white box that has been sweeping the nation for a few years now. Yes, the Wii had its origins in '80s blood sports.

While we were content to revel in this glorious slice of 8-bit history, we found it fitting to subject ourselves to another game - purely for your benefit, dear listeners. So we turned our attention to another phenomenon that began in the early days of the Clinton administration - Movie spin-off games.

It may not be a perfectly accurate statement, but before the advent of the NES the movie tie-in game did not have the devoted investment that came after. With the NES came an explosion of games based off Hollywood blockbusters, and thus "The Adams Family" was brought to shelves. This gives us definitive proof that the poor quality of movie-tie in games is not a result of short development cycles or poor production values, but rather is an immutable fact of natural law.

Please, dear listener, do hear our findings.

Episode 5 - City Connection & Tiny Toon Adventures

It is an interesting experience to play arcade ports on a console - a mixture of novelty and frustration that generally leaves the player dissatisfied. It was no different in the 90s, proving that some things in life are unchangeable. These self-evident truths are what we explore in today's episode.

Please listen here.

Episode 4 - Super Talking Jeopardy

We discuss why game shows of the 80s and 90s were great, and why good spelling is important.
